I have lived with multiple sclerosis for over 20 years. It has been a difficult journey. My pain was silent... My tears were silent... My feelings were silent. I kept my suffering hidden.
I never wanted my husband, my children, my family or friends to know what I go through. I didn't want my hurt to become everyone else's. My husband and I recently recorded an episode for our podcast show, Cream In My Coffee. This episode will air tomorrow, April 3, 2023 at 12am.
It is the most emotional and vulnerable episode we have ever done. In this episode, I finally open up to my husband about what I go through. Likewise, he opens up to me regarding his thoughts and emotions with having a wife that has an illness. We cried together, laughed together and we're both able to give helpful information regarding multiple sclerosis.
I never knew how he felt about my disease. This is the first time I got to hear his thoughts and emotions. It made me love him more than what I already do. I didn't even know it was possible to love him anymore.
Can having an illness affect your marriage? It's a simple answer... Yes... Having an illness such as multiple sclerosis, not only affects you, but likewise everyone around you. Both postive and negative.
It's something you have to learn to live with and manage physically, mentally and emotionally. It's important to stay focused on fighting for your life. Surround yourself with positivity. Never stop fighting for your life!!! If you are reading this blog, I encourage that you listen to our podcast, Cream In My Coffee, Season 1 episode 13. The episode is titled the same as this blog, "Can having an illness affect your marriage?"
